Women for World Health is proud to announce an added bonus to mission participation. Strengthening Cultural Competence through Volunteer Surgical Missions Abroad is a 30-hour continuing education course that will be implemented in our surgical missions. Commencing in May with our Ica Campaign, Registered Nurses will be able to acquire all credit hours required for license renewal simply by participating in one of our missions. Looking ahead, Women for World Health aims to conduct nursing conferences as a means of fundraising, and as a way to provide new opportunities for . If you're interested in planning, speaking, and/or assisting, reach out to us at mission@womenforworldhealth.org. We are always looking for energetic and interesting nurses, physicians, and other licensed professionals to further our goals.
Surgical Outreach – Ica, Peru 2018
In May of 2018 Women for World Health will be embarking on a mission to Ica, Peru to treat cataracts in the local population. This article will be updated shortly with more details, so stay tuned. Welcome to Women for World Health!
The new year marks the beginning of a new chapter for Women for World Health. We're pleased to welcome Laurel Aguila to the organization's leadership, as well as christen the launch of an updated website -- but that's not all. Over the past decade our organization has treated a variety of ailments across the thousands of patients we've seen with an emphasis on plastics. Now we're proud to announce a shift in focus to the treatment of cataracts in developing areas. This shift was prompted by a lone, powerful statistic: according to the WHO visual impairments afflict approximately 253 million people wordwide, and an astonishing 80% of these cases are curable and/or preventable.¹ With cataracts making up a large portion of this statistic, and the relative ease of conducting a…
