No stethoscopes will be needed to hear the rhythms coming from these doctors’ hearts as they compete in the first ever Battle of the Doctors’ Bands. Come watch as doctors from Southern California throw off their scrubs and rock out for charity at the Galaxy Theatre in Santa Ana Sept. 19.
Doctors ranging from plastic surgeons to neurosurgeons, dentists and more make up the five total rivaling bands from cities including San Clemente, Long Beach, Anaheim and Newport Beach. “It feels good to have the support of our community behind us when doing such difficult work,” said Women for World Health President Denise Cucurny, whose nonprofit organization is sponsoring the event.
Women for World Health’s mission to change lives in underdeveloped communities by providing plastic surgery and education will be furthered through the proceeds of this benefit concert. So come relax at the Galaxy Theatre — reserve lunch to get good seating — while these medical community virtuosos stitch together musical chords.
“We’re all ready to rock-n-roll,” said Director of Materials Management Dottie Baker, who’s spearheading this event. After realizing how many musically-inclined doctors craved a battle, Baker knew this event needed to be more than just a backyard barbeque. “Enthusiasm kept growing and I thought there just isn’t a better group than doctors to support our cause.”
In having such an event both Cucurny and Baker agreed that a fundraiser even the O.R. techs could afford and enjoy was a necessity. “We are not a group of wealthy, nonworking individuals,” Cucurny said. “And yet, we manage to make time to help people in other countries who have virtually no access to surgical care.”
And besides, how often can you watch five talented bands for only $25?
